Remember the movie Clueless? The one with the revolving wardrobe….It’s what dreams are made of.
Now, think Cher Horowitz in feathered mules, and a matching pen! What used to be considered cringe worthy 10 years ago, is like, so in!
The ’90s has made a huge comeback, and I am super excited. It brings back memories of cute miniskirts, mum jeans, and no responsibilities. I pretty much dwell on the no responsibility thing….But the fashion, nevertheless, was amazing.
I’ve had major nostalgic moments lately; watching re-runs of Friends, Will & Grace, and Sex & the City. I often have them on in the background whilst doing, you know, responsible stuff. *eye rolls*
But every now and then I glance over, and the outfits jump out at me. I think I could see myself wearing most of the outfits now, rather than when I was younger. I have a whole new appreciation for ’90s fashion!
I feel as if ’90s fashion had an air of simplicity, whilst utilising different textures and shapes. Feather trimmings, silk dresses, woollen mini-skirts, spaghetti straps, boob tubes, sequins and stiff cotton jeans. And what I loved the most, was that it was all paired with a basic item such as a white tee. Simple.
I actually got this skirt a few years ago from Seed, which actually came with a matching top. I have always worn them separately, because I’m not a complete animal! But if you’re going to peacock with a loud skirt, I do believe it needs to remain the hero. Therefore by adding a few basic pieces such as a plain white tee and a block colour blazer, it will allow the skirt to shine. And I love the mix of white and cream together; it’s complimentary whilst adding an air of intrigue. Comprende.
One must always remember that a fun skirt like this elicits booty shaking! You can not stand still in a skirt like this! In fact, I would go as far as saying that you can not be sad in a skirt like this. So next time you’re feeling down, why not pick yourself up some feathers, and dance like everyone is watching. Because everyone is watching! And if you don’t feel like standing out, why not dress it down with a pair of white sneakers? I did. Soon after this shoot. I couldn’t face a pair of heels that evening. So, I threw my white kicks on, and I was a comfortable as one can be in a feathered skirt.
I am a big fan of textures and styles that have staying power; and feathers are no exception. Every season or two you will see an injection of feathers in some shape or form. Whether you see it on the bottom of a blazer or t-shirt, or an all-over coat, you’ll be sure that it makes a statement. Prada have been doing beautiful pieces, such as this feather trimmed skirt. As well as these spectacular shoes. I mean, stop it!!! I’ll take one in every colour, please.
So, why not pay homage to your early childhood, and crack out a bit of ’90s fashion. It not only takes you skipping down memory lane, but adds an element of innocence and fun to your wardrobe. And if nothing else, it will make you smile. And whip your hair back and forth….
