Christmas is over for another year, and New Years Eve is fast approaching. You’re probably just starting to rise from your food comer, and the days are all moulding into one. You may even be starting to think about your New Year’s goals and aspirations. Even though I tend not to do anything too flashy for New Year’s, I love thinking about different outfit options.
New Years Eve is the one night where you can wear as much glitter and shine as humanly possible, and not look like a total idiot! If you haven’t noticed by now, I have a real obsession with big, statement earrings. They have the ability to totally transform an outfit. And I was lucky enough to get my hands on the coveted Racil earrings (seen in these images), and I think I will be wearing them with every outfit for the foreseeable future!
Another great way to add extra sparkle to an outfit is actually through the use of make-up and hair accessories. I am a huge fan of metallic eyeshadow using eye pencils and glitter pieces. I’m also digging eye gloss too. Yes, you read that right. Eye gloss is back on the scene. But this time, not from Red Earth, but from brands like Tom Ford and Kevyn Aucoin. It not only cements your eyeshadow and/or glitter, but gives your eyes a spectacular glass-like effect. As for your hair, why not try adding flowers, sequins or ribbons? Do something different, the worse that can happen is that it doesn’t work! Process of elimination!
So if you’ve always wanted to wear sequins, glitter, crystals, or chain mail, then start with New Years Eve. Go all out! Thereafter, you can add splashes of sparkle & shine to your outfit without the fear. For example, I’m very much looking forward to wearing these Racil earrings with a plain white t-shirt and a denim skirt. It’s effortless, unique, whilst being both dressy and casual. The best part, you won’t need to save all of your glitzy pieces for “special” occasions. You can actually get more use out of them, which means all of those purchases you made, that you perhaps regretted, are now justifiable! Because, you know…math.
And New Years Eve isn’t all about sparkly outfits, it’s also a time to reflect on the year that was, and set some intentions for the year ahead. I like to set a few short and long term goals at the beginning of each year, and then read over them at the end and see how far I got. More often than not, I achieve majority of them, and am on track to hit the long term goals. It’s a very satisfying process.
Goal setting and outfit planning aside, one of the most important practices any one can work on, is being ‘present.’ In a world full of phones and technology, it’s important to be present when spending time with loved ones. Give them all of your attention, as time is the best gift of all.
Have a very happy and safe New Year!
