It’s now 2018 and summer in Australia is shaping up to be a good one. Summer is my favourite season. There is nothing better than hot days, balmy evenings, and mangos! Although winter is a lot more versatile in terms of experimenting with fashion, summer provides an opportunity to trial more minimal styling. When the weather heats up, I always revert back to basic pieces. And basics should be good quality, comfortable, long-wearing, and versatile.
A denim skirt is one of those pieces that never goes out of style. Nowadays denim brands are bringing out styles and denim washes to suit all different body types and skin tones. After reading a number of reviews, I opted for this GRLFRND denim skirt, as it has an A-line shape and sits naturally high on the waist. I also opted for a denim skirt with no stretch as it holds it’s shape, which hopefully means it becomes a steadfast staple for years to come. It’s important to understand what you want in an item, read the reviews and invest where necessary. It’s always better to spend a little more on one item that you absolutely love (and of good quality), then buy 5 items of lesser value that will only last you a season, if that. By choosing wisely, you can feel confident that you have spent your hard-earned money on things that you will adore for much longer.
Although this may sound contradictory; basic t-shirts are something you can stock up on. I actually have an array of t-shirts, varying from high to lower quality. Sometimes you need a t-shirt to throw on over a wet bikini, and that wouldn’t be the best way to treat a high quality piece.
A white t-shirt is a particular favourite of mine, as it looks great with denim and pops of colour. I have being wearing this t-shirt with so many different looks; some of which are quite dressy. For more ideas on where to find the perfect white t-shirt, check out my older post.
Another summer favourite of mine is to utilise colour when accessorising. I fell in love with these Mercedes Salazar pink hoops the moment I saw them. Colours like fuchsia have the ability to suit most skin tones and hair colours, as well as complimenting other bright hues like the lipstick I’m wearing. I opted for an orange lip colour by Lipstick Queen. If you’ve been looking for the perfect lipstick colour for summer; I highly recommend this one. It’s rich in colour; without being too intense. And moisturising; without being too glossy.
Over the next few weeks as I settle into my new home, of Sydney, I hope to bring you new summer styles. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to see. I will endeavour to do my best.
Happy New Year! Bring on 2018!
