As you may have figured, I am a bit of an advocate for buying good basic pieces. If not, check out my previous posts on this!
Styles that never fade – part 1
Styles that never fade – part 2
Styles that never fade – part 3
So, I thought I would post a few tips that you can mentally check off when beginning your search for these pieces.
Read on.
Quality
Take the time to research what the item is made from, and where it’s manufactured. Not only does it make it more environmentally friendly (natural material over plastic-derived material), the fit and longevity will help you justify the price tag. Consequently, if they fit well, you’re more inclined to wear it more often. We all know what happens when something doesn’t fit quite right…it sits in your closet!
Fits your style
Just because it’s a basic item, doesn’t mean you need to neglect your own style. If you don’t like typical tank tops available, opt for a high neck top, such as the one I’m wearing in this post. It still acts a basic item, but it has a little of my own pizzaz! Find your pizzaz pieces, and stock up on them.
Take your time
Don’t rush into a purchase, because you feel you NEED it right away. You don’t NEED anything! Take ownership over the buying process by doing your research, and understanding what you’re buying, and why you’re buying it. It’s so much more satisfying when you have been deliberating over an item for a while, and then you make a decision that feels so right.
Love what you buy
My final bit of advice is to absolute LOVE what you buy… even when it’s a basic item. If you only partially like something, then you won’t feel inspired to wear or style it. Every piece no matter the significance, you should love. Respect your hard earned money enough, to spend it wisely. 🙂
So, there it is! A few key points to think about when shopping for basic items. Are there any you would add?
