5 Ways to Reinvent Your LBD.

I don’t think the Little Black Dress (LBD) concept needs any introduction, but what you might need, is some inspiration on how to mix it up.

A LBD is every girls staple item, but it can sometimes be a bit boring. Now, I know, a leather dress isn’t boring. But, wearing the SAME leather dress over and over again, can be. So, this post will include some (hopefully) useful tips to help you mix up your look, so not only can you produce new looks every time, but you can justify your next LBD purchase! ūüėČ

  1. Wear statement earrings.

It’s no lie, I really love statement earrings. I wear them with everything! I love them because they instantly transform a look without doing a whole lot. The good thing about LBD’s is that you can wear any colour or style earring with them and they instantly pop! I opted for these Zara earrings because they added glam whilst providing a hint of edginess!

2. Layer numerous gold necklaces

I love gold necklaces, I always have. These 90s vibing necklaces looked great against the black dress, and added a level of intrigue without a whole lot of effort. I’m not one to really follow (fashion) rules, therefore I followed the mantra, ‘more is more’ in this instance! But, one big statement necklace could work equally well.

3. Rock a coloured eye shadow

This, was a first for me. Well, I lie. I’m sure I rocked all sorts of hideous eye shadow colours when I was a teen. However, this look took some guts. But, it really does add a whole new level of intrigue to a LBD outfit. I believe green and blue are the best colours, but I have also seen some amazing colours such as yellow and orange been done. Although, I would highly recommend having a make-up professional apply it for you, or at the very least, allow them to teach you to apply it yourself. No one has time these days to stuff around with make up mishaps before a night out!

4. Wear an off-beat shoe

Instead of always wearing a strappy heel, why not opt for a white cowboy boot?! The good thing about a LBD, is that it goes with any colour, so think outside the box (pun intended) when choosing your shoes. Perhaps wearing your LBD with a something like sneakers allows you to get more use out of your dress. Embrace the uncertainty, and try it out.

5. Try an edgier hairstyle

My hairstyle isn’t hugely edgy here, but it is voluminous. Sometimes, a simple change in perspective in how you approach doing your hair, can change the whole look. For this outfit, I also explored the possibilities of doing a slick back ‘do’ or a ponytail as well. My advice would be to create a Pinterest board of different hairstyles, and the next time you plan on wearing your LBD, refer to the board for inspiration. It often takes one bit of inspiration to completely alter the way in which you look at how you style your next look.

In this case, I utilised all 5 tips to change the look of this LBD, but it needn’t be that dramatic. Why not try just one next time, and tell me how you go with it? Tag me – #leatherandsoie on Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest. I’d love to see what you come up with!
